"Microscopic Observation" Technology Changing the World — Our Piezoelectric Micropumps Go to Space!

April 23, 2025

We'd like to introduce a case study by IDDK Co., Ltd., a company that specializes in the research and development of compact microscopic instruments.

Their flagship products are fingertip-sized imaging devices that utilize advanced microscopic observation technology based on semiconductor sensors.

Their microscopes are compact and portable, making them ideal for use in a wide range of environments.

One such application is the Micro Bio Space LAB (MBS-LAB), a bio-experiment platform designed for space research.

The MBS-LAB incorporates our SDMP series piezoelectric micropumps to enable fluid control in microgravity conditions.

TFS’s SDMP series piezoelectric micropumps were selected for integration into the system due to their compact size, lightweight design, and simple operation using a built-in driver operates with DC power supply.

The unit was successfully launched on April 22, 2025, aboard a Falcon 9 rocket from Florida, USA.

In the future, IDDK plans to initiate operations of the Micro Bio Space LAB (MBS-LAB) in low Earth orbit to demonstrate real-time microscopic observation and explore new possibilities for biological experimentation utilizing satellite.

Through this collaborative development, TFS is proud to contribute to the advancement of space-based research.
