Introduction to Customized Valves that are used in High/Low-Temperature Environments

July 25, 2023

Aren't there cases that require countermeasures to allow high or low-temperature working fluids?

In this article, we will introduce two cases related to customized valve temperature specifications desired across various industries.

Case 1:

  • I. Customized Requirement
    ・Needs:
    ① To change temperature specifications
    ② Lower power consumption

  • II. Background:
    ・Field (Industry): Energy
    ・Country or Region: Asia
・Application: To develop fuel cells for power generation in polar regions.
・Problem Statement: I am looking for a valve with a low power consumption of 1W or less, and to be used at extremely low temperatures of -30℃.

  • IV. Customization Involved:
・The coil power and sealing force are optimally designed with a power consumption of 0.7W.
・By changing the design from a diaphragm type to a non-diaphragm one, we succeeded in the design of a valve that can be used even in low-temperature environments.

Case 2:

  • I. Customized Requirement
    ・Need to change temperature specifications

  • II. Background:
    ・Field (Industry): Energy
    ・Country or Region: Asia
・Application: In response to the factory exhaust gas regulations, a new exhaust gas monitoring device is under development. This valve will be a part of the new device.
・Problem Statement: The valve should be compatible with a highly corrosive exhaust gas & must function in a high-temperature environment.

  • IV. Customization Involved:
・By adopting appropriate material & implementing heat transfer measures, this valve can handle corrosive gases up to 200℃. The heat transfer measures include revised internal construction & addition of Ventiducts.
・The heat arising from the actuator has also been suppressed to a great extent due to the inclusion of a Hit & Hold circuit.
