Lead Wire Thickness Notations Used In Our Technical Information

The American Wire Gauge (AWG) or the cross-sectional area of the wire is used to represent the thickness of lead wires in our technical information, depending on the types of the lead wire being used.

AWG is widely used to describe the diameter of a wire. The AWG notation defines 0.46 inches in diameter as 0000 AWG or 4/0 AWG, and 0.005 inches in diameter as 36 AWG. It is then geometrically divided by 39, which creates 40 gauge sizes from 4/0 to 36.

The cross-sectional area is represented in square millimeters. Many lead wires for our products have a cross-sectional area of 0.2 mm2 or 0.08 mm2, which are equivalent to 24 AWG and 28 AWG respectively.
